Connecting to a Captive Portal

If the network you are using requires you to view or  interact with a web page in order to access the internet (captive portal), you can connect your Aura to this network using the Aura app.

To connect the frame to the internet through a captive portal, you will need to use an iOS device. At this time, the Android version of our app does not support WiFi setup through a captive portal. However, once you connect the frame to enterprise WiFi using an iOS device, you can then control the frame on an Android.

Here is how you connect your frame to WiFi using a captive portal:
  1. If it’s your first time setting up a frame, open the Aura app and tap “Set Up A New Frame”. If your app is already connected to a frame, open the Aura app, tap “Frames”, tap “Add A New Frame” and tap “Set Up A New Frame”.

  2. Tap “It’s plugged in”.

  3. Make sure the numbers in the pairing page match those displayed on the screen. Tap “Next”.

  4. Tap “Connect Now”.

  5. Select the wifi to which you wish to connect. 

  6. On your Aura frame, you will see a screen that says: “The network X uses a captive portal webpage to limit access to the internet. Please use the Aura app to perform additional setup.” In the app you will see: “Your wifi network requires you to complete a captive portal web page . Use this app to navigate the webpage on the frame.” Click “OK”.

  7. On your frame, you will see a web browser with instructions to connect to the internet. On the app you will see a grey square. Move your index finger around the grey square to move the cursor displayed on the frame. Tap the grey square to click on the buttons displayed on the frame. Hit “Go” when you have finished completing the portal.

  8. Next you will be asked to name your frame. Hit “Okay”.

  9. Invite family members or skip this step. 

  10. Enable notifications or not

  11. Click “Let’s Go”.
